Suggestions regarding teacher services and facilities and educational improvements
Although the teaching profession is one of the major basic services of the state in Nepal, the status and facilities of the teaching staff related to this profession are not adequate. I present the following point-by-point suggestions to improve this:
1. Grade facilities for teachers like in civil service
Teachers should be provided with grade facilities similar to civil servants and be ensured a respectable status.
2. Periodic promotion
The system of five (5) year periodic promotions should also be implemented for teachers. This will increase motivation and long-term commitment among teachers.
3. Establishment of Teachers' Hospital
A 'Teachers' Hospital' that provides special facilities for teachers and their families should be established or treatment facilities should be provided through existing hospitals in technical partnership.
4. Training and technical assistance
Every teacher should be provided with a laptop/computer and encouraged to participate in modern teaching. Continuous refresher training and skills development in the use of ICT (Information Technology) should be provided.
5. School Improvement
Every school should be ensured to have clean drinking water, safe toilets, a library, a science laboratory, and a computer classroom.
6. Student Facilities
Provide free textbooks and educational materials on time.
Expand subsidized transportation and meal programs for students in rural and remote areas.
7. Curriculum and learning
Practical curriculum : integrating life skills (agriculture, business, health, technology, entrepreneurship).
Localization : Adjustments to the curriculum according to the local context.
Language Policy : Balancing teaching in the mother tongue and the national language.
8. Governance and Responsibility Role of Local Government :
The responsibility for elementary (grades 1-8) and secondary (9-12) levels will be given to local governments, but
Quality measurement, teacher appointment and inspection will be coordinated by the federal/provincial government .
9. Technology and Modernity Computer Education :
Thus, I am confident that if the above-mentioned suggestions are implemented in a phased manner, Nepal's education system will become more quality, inclusive, modern, technology-friendly, practical, and sustainable in the long term.
Thank you.
